About Us

For 65 years Reekie has been a name closely associated with the manufacture of agricultural machinery, designing and manufacturing soil- engaging implements like the Reekie Stone Separator, Reekie Potato Harvester and Reekie Potato Planter.

In 2019 we recognised a commercial need for sterilisation of soil on an economic, industrial scale and Reekie Manufacturing began to develop and manufacture a range of machines that, in combination with a low- pressure steam source, achieves this.

We design and manufacture the soil-moving machinery at our facility in Arbroath, Scotland.  We have close partnerships with several leading steam-boiler manufacturers to provide the complete soil sterilisation package. Alternatively we can adapt our machine to fit a suitable, existing steam boiler, or to use steam generated from other sources of energy (waste, biomass etc)

The Reekie Manufacturing team has an abundance of experience in manufacturing and service, and a strong commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Steam Sterlisation

Low-pressure, superheated (heated to 200 degrees) steam is the most efficient, and safe, means of heating soil or other medium, to neutralise unwanted seeds, weeds and nematodes. The RSS continuous flow and active motion ‘tumbles’ the soil, or other medium, so that the colder soil continuously moves into the heated steam band over a given residency time to ensure the soil mass is evenly heated to a set temperature, from 70 to 120 degrees, dependent on requirement and exits the process fully sterilised at a typical output of 30 cubic metres per hour dependent on requisite residency time.

Steam sterilisation means no need for expensive chemicals, many of which are being banned for use in weed control.

The RSS3000 operation is designed to minimise condensation.
