About Us
For 80 years, Reekie has been a name closely associated with the manufacture of innovative agricultural machinery, designing and manufacturing soil-engaging implements.
In 2019, we recognised a commercial need for the sterilisation of soil on an economic, industrial scale. Reekie Manufacturing began to develop and field test a system in combination with a low-pressure steam source as an alternative to chemicals.
We design and manufacture the RSS3000 soil-moving machinery at our facility in Arbroath, Scotland.
The Reekie Manufacturing team has an abundance of experience in manufacturing and service, and a strong commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Low-pressure, superheated (heated to 200 degrees) steam is the most efficient and safe means of heating soil or other medium, to neutralise unwanted seeds, weeds and nematodes. The RSS continuous flow and active motion ‘tumbles’ the soil, or other medium, so that the colder soil continuously moves into the heated steam band over a given residency time to ensure the soil mass is evenly heated to a set temperature, from 70 to 105 degrees, dependent on requirement and exits the process fully sterilised at a typical output of 35 cubic metres per hour dependent on requisite residency time.
Steam sterilisation means no need for expensive chemicals, many of which are being banned for use in weed control.
